Welcome

Welcome to the homepage of Rettung Schloss Blankenburg e. V. and Großes Schloss Blankenburg GmbH!

Blankenburg Castle - the largest Guelph castle still standing - is the landmark of the town of Blankenburg with a history stretching back over 900 years. Today's castle complex has evolved from medieval castle ruins and buildings from the Renaissance period. At the beginning of the 18th century, a Baroque palace with European representative architecture was built on the "Blankenstein" for the Guelph princely residence of Blankenburg at that time. The baroque architecture has been largely preserved to this day.

Years of vacancy of the buildings after completion of the consumer cooperative's "Fachschule für Binnenhandel" (trade school for domestic trade), which was established there until 1991, has led to considerable and sometimes extreme damage to the castle ensemble. Since 2005, the association Rettung Schloss Blankenburg e. V. has been trying to stop the decay and to achieve the renovation and sustainable use of the castle complex. Since the end of 2008, Großes Schloss Blankenburg GmbH has been the owner of the castle.

In 2014, the association Rettung Schloss Blankenburg e. V. was awarded the German Prize for Monument Protection (Deutscher Preis für Denkmalschutz).
